Yverdon les base or Yverdon – Come to the Natural Spa Town of Switzerland! written by: rinabanik

Yverdon-les-Bain, the town nestling between the Jura, Broye Hills and the Lake Neuenburg is a spa resort in the western Switzerland which is well known for its natural beauty. The Swiss paradise boosts of its thermal spa which is center for healing and relaxation. The medieval castles prove of the cultural heritage that has been there for over 6000 years. The castles dominate the old town just like the other rich spots of the town. The weather of the town is also soothing, which makes it an ideal place to visit all around the year. I was absolutely thrilled during my first visit to this place and here I want to share my wonderful experience with you:

Castle of Grandson (Chateau de Grandson)

To my wonder I found the 13th century old Grandson castle, overlooking Lake Neuchatel is not just an astonishing medieval castle but also the second biggest in Switzerland. The unique collection of armor, choir stalls, weapons, vintage cars and crossbows are what makes the castle different from the rest. On my visit there, I heard from a local that the castle was a vital one as it played a significant role in the Burgundian Wars and also in the Battle of Grandson. The display of the classic vintage cars like Greta Garbo’s Rolls-Royce Phantom I and Winston Churchill’s Austin Cambridge Saloon are fascinating to admire. The best part of the Chateau de Grandson is that visitors can even book private rooms and the inner court for dinners and conferences.

Science fiction Museum

It was a mesmerizing experience for me to be a part of the workshops and especially it was a mind blowing experience for kids being  at the kid’s workshop. There are quite a number of workshops being held there that are informative, entertaining and interactive. The Maison is devoted to Jules Verne. Being a game lover, visiting this spot was enthralling and also if you are a non-gaming person, you could engage yourself in other types of exhibitions that are held there.

Museum at The Castle of Yverdon

The local museum in the castle of Yverdon has got its collection of architectural stuff just like many museums. It is spread over many floors with descriptions written in French. The visitors receive a free guide to take a tour of the museum. There are old paintings on the ceilings from the Bernese period that depicts the history of the museum. I saw it had exhibits from the Bronze and the Neolithic age too consisting of metal work, pots, jewelry and so on. Each of the rooms showcases a period that marks a vital point in the history of Yverdon.

Romainmotier Abbey Church

One of the oldest Romanesque churches in Switzerland is the Romainmotier Abbey Church that is situated amidst the everlasting beautiful picturesque surroundings of Yverdon-les-Bains. It is a model of the Cluny church, an abbatial sandstone church which holds daily choirs, concerts and other services. My visit to this church simply splendid and serene that gave a cultural blast of the town.

Thermal Centre

The thermal centre is one of the places you just can’t choose to escape from. It has been there in Yverdon-les-Bains for almost thousands of years that and has been offering sulphur spring water due to the Roman thermal bath vestiges. This thermal centre having four thermal pools was created around a sulphur spring.  Trust me, this is definitely the ultimate place for relaxation and wellness that offers Jacuzzis, hydro jets, bubble baths and much more. You can plan your stay in the four star Grand hotel that was built in 1896 right adjacent to the thermal centre, therefore allowing visitors to experience what luxury and wellness feels like, when they are clubbed together.

To be honest, It was a friend who I met at a  social media site suggested that I must visit the town as it would provide no less than a breathtaking experience that I would remember for a lifetime. So, if you are willing to relive an awesome trip that you would want to cherish forever, it is Yverdon-les-Bain.
